What sets Ibexes apart are their magnificent, curved horns. Coveted as trophies by hunters, they are a primary reason for the decline of this extraordinary species. Ibexes live on steep cliffs, some towering as high as 22,000 feet! With nimble grace, they traverse this rugged terrain effortlessly, using hooves that grip steep rocky surfaces like suction cups. Their remarkable agility even includes leaping over 6 feet straight up without a running start. The Pyrenean Ibex was declared extinct in 2000, while the Walia Ibex teeters on the brink with only 500 individuals remaining. The Nubian Ibex is also vulnerable; its numbers are dwindling rapidly. These challenges underscore the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect the Ibex populations and their unequalled natural grace and beauty.
